On March 28, two leading giants in the hot-melt adhesive industry—Foshan Lisheng Hot-Melt Adhesive Co., Ltd. of China and Germany’s Andino GmbH—held a press conference and signing ceremony at the Canton Fair Complex, marking the launch of a new chapter of collaboration with a global outlook rooted in China. Wang Shaofeng, Chairman of Lisheng, and Mr. Dieter, Chairman of Andino, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective companies.

According to reports, this is not the first collaboration between the two parties. As early as 2018, Lisheng and Andino established a long-term, comprehensive strategic partnership. This time, Lisheng will further deepen its strategic cooperation with Germany’s Andino by establishing a joint venture—Lian (Shandong) New Materials Co., Ltd.—with the aim of intensifying efforts to develop the Chinese market. Hot-melt adhesives, as an important class of adhesives, are widely used in various sectors, including packaging, footwear, and furniture. With the continuous development of the global economy, demand for hot-melt adhesives has been steadily increasing. China and Germany, as key players in the hot-melt adhesive industry, have long maintained close cooperation in areas such as technological innovation and market expansion. The current partnership between Lisheng and Andino represents a significant upgrade in Sino-German cooperation within the hot-melt adhesive sector.

Sino-German joint venture, a powerful alliance

Lisheng Hot-Melt Adhesive was founded in 1998 and has been a leading domestic manufacturer of edge-banding hot-melt adhesives for more than two decades, consistently maintaining a commanding market share. Meanwhile, Germany’s Andino enjoys a stellar reputation across Europe and overseas, boasting deep technical expertise and extensive market experience—particularly in PUR production technology—where its product quality has earned worldwide recognition and acclaim.

As a leading player in China’s hot-melt adhesive industry, Lisheng has consistently prioritized technological innovation and product upgrades. In 2018, Lisheng entered into a comprehensive strategic partnership with Germany’s Andino GmbH, acquiring German formulations, technologies, and equipment to produce high-end PUR hot-melt adhesives, thereby filling a critical gap in domestic applications requiring such advanced solutions. This agreement marks another milestone in the deepening of the two companies’ strategic collaboration and represents a powerful alliance between two industry leaders. It also serves as a new starting point for diversified cooperation and mutual success, injecting fresh vitality into China’s hot-melt adhesive sector.

According to available information, the Sino-German joint venture, Li’an (Shandong) New Materials Co., Ltd., is located in Linyi, Shandong Province, covering an area of 50 mu. The facility is scheduled for completion and commissioning in 2024. This new production project incorporates advanced German industrial concepts and technological support. The deployment of fully automated production equipment ensures high efficiency and precision throughout the manufacturing process; the adoption of German production processes has significantly enhanced product quality and stability; the addition of a dedicated German R&D team has injected strong innovation momentum into the company; and the unique German product formulations further confer a core competitive edge on its offerings. In terms of infrastructure, Li’an has constructed a state-of-the-art, large-scale industrial plant, providing robust support for efficient production.

The two leading brands, Lisheng and Andino, will concurrently operate EVA hot-melt adhesives and PUR hot-melt adhesives, with annual production capacities of 100,000 tonnes and 30,000 tonnes, respectively, thereby fully meeting the robust market demand. The successful implementation of this major project marks another solid step forward in Sino-German joint ventures in the field of new materials.

Full of Confidence, Jointly Pioneering a New Frontier for Hot-Melt Adhesives

At the signing ceremony, representatives from both sides granted interviews to the media. In response to the question, “As an industry leader, why is Lisheng still partnering with an imported brand?” Wang Long, the Chinese representative, explained that Lisheng has been dedicated to the R&D and production of edge-banding hot-melt adhesives in China for more than 20 years, consistently maintaining a leading position in domestic sales. To meet the growing demand in the woodworking adhesives market and enhance its production capacity, Lisheng has formed a strategic alliance with Germany’s Andino. By leveraging Andino’s advanced manufacturing equipment and robust R&D capabilities, Lisheng aims to further improve product quality and deliver even better service to its customers. Moreover, Lisheng and Andino have enjoyed a highly successful collaboration in the past, with their products earning widespread recognition from manufacturers both at home and abroad. Therefore, the decision to deepen this partnership is a natural and logical next step.

Is Lisheng ready to go global? According to Wang Long, Lisheng’s products have long been sold in overseas markets. In the past two years, the company even established an office in Vietnam. Currently, Lisheng is collaborating with Germany’s Andino to further refine its strategic direction and better serve the global market.

From the German perspective, having been in the hot-melt adhesive business for more than 20 years, what core technologies does Andino possess? In response, Mr. Dieter, President of Andino, stated that if there is a secret to their success, it lies in the durability of their adhesive products and their stringent control over raw materials—these are their core strengths. Within Andino’s production chain, they rigorously test and repeatedly verify the viability of raw materials before use, ensuring consistent product quality—much like baking a cake requires selecting only the finest ingredients. He emphasized that whether it’s Lisheng, Andino, or this new plant in Shandong, choosing high-quality raw materials and subjecting them to rigorous inspection are the keys to success.

As for future plans, Mr. Dieter stated that they will continue to prioritize quality, procure high-quality equipment, and collaborate with Lisheng to develop premium products, with the aim of exporting these products to global markets. As a foreign investor, he is highly optimistic about China’s technological prowess and the prospects for the development of Chinese manufacturing, and he enjoys investing and building his career here, looking forward to forging even more cooperative partnerships with China.
